Welcome Inquisitive One..

I LOVE history, and studying history has brought to light not what's been and gone and therefore unimportant, but what we've forgotten.

I feel this is why so many things happen in cycles, like a nudge to remember what we're doing on this earth and why.

We know all things come around and back around. Just look at fashion, music, slang and stories.
Yoga has fluctuated throughout history in this very same way. Gaining popularity, blossoming broadly, being misunderstood and outright banned to once again finding a global community of practitioners. You being one, of course!

So where did it come from? How's it changed? And what does that mean for those of us practicing today?

Join me on this 4-week online exploration of the history of yoga. From its ancient roots in the Indus Valley to the Vedic Period, the Classical Era and how yoga survived under British colonisation, all the way to today.

I hope this course can bring a deeper reverence to the wonders of yoga and how it connects you to your most ancient ancestors.

What to Expect..

Each week we'll explore a historical era of yoga, what it contained, its main thoughts and philosophies.
Week 1:
Ancient Yoga: Indus Valley Civilisation
The first signs and symbols of yoga and its practices.
Week 2:
Vedic Yoga: The Vedic Period
The migration and culmination of cultural ideas, including yoga.
Week 3:
Classical Yoga: The Axial Age of Awakening & books of wisdom.
The texts that broaden our horizons.
Week 4:
Modern Yoga: How Yoga Made it to us Today.
Yoga under British rule and how it survived.
This course will contain some movement but won't be a full āsana class. We'll have seated time in conversation and writing.

"Lauren's classes are a very special, therapeutic time to pause and reflect amidst the busy-ness of life. I'd highly recommend them and can't believe how the times whizzes by!"
